The Politics of Property Specialist Group is committed to promoting the study of the politics of property in the UK but we make no assumptions about approaches or methodologies. We recognize that this is a subject that can be approached in many different ways and by practitioners in many different disciplines. Indeed, we hope to be able to use the group to promote a genuinely interdisciplinary conversation.
At present the group operates under the direction of a steering group consisting of Chris Pierson (Chair-Treasurer, University of Nottingham), Robert Lamb (University of Exeter) and Lucy Sargisson (Secretary, University of Nottingham). The group adopted a constitution at its meeting in Edinburgh in March, 2010. Elections for office-holders will be held at the next AGM.
Our first initiative was to organize a two-day conference on the politics of property which was held at the University of Exeter on 1st and 2nd April, 2009. Papers from the conference have appeared as a Special Issue of the British Journal of Politics and International Relations in January, 2010.
The group ran a workshop programme of five panels at the PSA’s Annual Conference in Edinburgh in March/April 2010. We shall be running a two-day conference on the theme of ‘Property and Inheritance’ (supported by the PSA, the Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice at the University of Nottingham and the Hansewissenschaftskolleg) in Germany in September, 2010.
